DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI OF DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE
SUPPORT CY VANCE FOR MANHATTAN DA

Linda Fairstein, Peter Zimroth and a Host of Former Assistant District Attorneys Are
Backing Vance, Citing His Experience as the Only True Litigator in the Race

NEW YORK, NY – Today a group of former assistant district attorneys, including notable lawyers Linda Fairstein and Peter Zimroth, gathered on the steps of the New York Supreme Courthouse to voice their support for Cy Vance for Manhattan District Attorney.

"Cy is the consummate lawyer. Unlike his opponents, he has spent his career trying cases in the courtroom – first, shoulder to shoulder with many of just down the street, and then, building one of the finest law firms in the country. He has tried tough cases – recognized over and over again for his integrity, a sense of fairness, and a respect for civil right, for human rights, and for general decency. He has the perfect range of experience to run an office of 500 trial and appellate lawyers because he has spent his professional life working as a litigator, recognized by his peers for his ability and his demeanor. Simply put – Cy nows how to build a case, when it is appropriate to mount a case, and what it takes – fairly – to win a case."

“Cy has never shied away from tough legal challenges. He has prosecuted domestic violence crimes, political corruption and white-collar fraud. As a defense attorney, he represented drug addicts charged under the Rockefeller drug laws,” said Peter Zimroth, partner at Arnold & Porter LLP and former Chief Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan. “Cy has the experience to face today’s challenges: he knows how to investigate and prosecute complex white-collar crime cases, and his community justice model will keep us on the right track when it comes to public safety. He understands that with great power comes great responsibility. Cy will respect the office, work to improve the criminal justice system for all and treat everyone equally under the law. He will be a great Manhattan DA.”

“I truly appreciate this show of support from so many respected lawyers. It’s an honor to have my former colleagues join my effort to deliver fairness in the criminal justice system. They are here today because, like me, they care about New York’s criminal justice system. They care about getting illegal guns off the street. They care about protecting domestic violence victims and those who have been defrauded by Wall Street. They care about defending equal rights on issues like gay marriage and gender discrimination. These issues will be my priorities, as I work to guide the office toward fairness and justice.”

In addition to this group of DANY alumni, Vance also has the support of former Mayor David Dinkins and Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum.
