"I wish to extend my condolences to the family of Officer Edwards. His untimely death is a terrible tragedy, and my heart goes out to his wife and two children. I understand that the District Attorney has said that this case will be presented to the grand jury. I strongly support a fully independent grand jury investigation, and I hope that a thorough review of the facts results in justice for all involved."
