1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East and SEIU Local 32BJ today announced their joint support for Cy Vance, Democratic candidate for Manhattan District Attorney. 1199 and 32BJ are, respectively, the largest healthcare and property service workers unions in the country. These unions have a major impact on New York City elections and are strong advocates on the local and national stage for healthcare reform, worker protections, immigrants’ rights, and a host of progressive causes. 1199 President George Gresham cited Vance’s Community-Based Justice Model, progressive vision, and commitment to equality as reasons for the endorsement.

Council Member Inez Dickens today announced her support for Cy Vance, Democratic candidate for Manhattan District Attorney. Dickens, who represents Central Harlem, Morningside Heights, and parts of the Upper West Side and East Harlem, praised Vance’s commitment to Community-Based Justice and his focus on crime prevention and alternatives to incarceration.

Guillermo Linares, former Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs of the City of New York, today announced his endorsement of Cy Vance for Manhattan District Attorney. Linares, the country’s first Dominican-American elected official, represented Washington Heights, Inwood and Marble Hill on the City Council in the 1990s and is a prominent advocate for progressive issues, including immigrants’ rights. He praised Vance’s commitment to fairness in the criminal justice system and his plan for a Washington Heights Office.

Councilmember Jessica Lappin today announced her support for Cy Vance, Democratic candidate for Manhattan District Attorney. Lappin, who represents the Upper East Side and Roosevelt Island, praised Vance’s extensive experience as a prosecutor and defense attorney, his construction safety plans, and his dedication to stopping sex trafficking. She also cited his efforts to guarantee women’s reproductive rights.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer today endorsed Cy Vance for Manhattan District Attorney. Stringer, who has spent nearly two decades in public service, praised Vance’s extensive experience as a prosecutor and defense attorney, his plans for Community-Based Justice, and his judgment and focus on the issues. 

The Black Law Enforcement Alliance and the Barack Obama Democratic Club of East Harlem today announced their support for Cy Vance, Democratic candidate for Manhattan District Attorney. Both organizations are committed to the betterment of the society in which we live and work. BLEA selected Vance based on his clear and focused understanding of the concerns of both law enforcement and community, as well as his unwavering commitment to justice. The Club recognized Vance’s focus on prevention programs and keeping our youth safe.

Vance, who has been endorsed by the New York Times and current DA Robert Morgenthau, also reiterated the need to enact his Plan to Reduce Gun Violence and Trafficking. Under the plan, Vance will employ every resource at the District Attorney’s disposal, including building law enforcement and community coalitions, implementing new technologies, promoting amnesty programs and aggressively lobbying for enhanced legislation.

The Fukien American Association, along with more than 20 other Chinese community organizations, today announced its support for Cy Vance, Democratic candidate for Manhattan District Attorney. Hugh Mo, former ADA and NYPD Deputy Commissioner, cited Vance’s Immigrant Protection Plan and commitments to safe housing as reasons for the endorsement.

Kenneth Cheng, President of the Fukien American Association, said: “It is vital for the Chinese community that we have a DA who understands our problems and will work with us to solve them. That is why we are uniting behind Cy Vance. We will support him not only in voice, but also in means. We will reach out to our members, make phone calls, and make sure that everyone in the Chinese community understands that Cy Vance is the right choice for Manhattan DA.” 

The League of Young Voters Political Action Committee (LYV) today endorsed Cy Vance, Democratic candidate for Manhattan District Attorney. The League, a national youth empowerment and progressive political organization that focuses on non-college youth and young people from low-income communities and communities of color, voiced enthusiastic support for Vance’s youth initiatives, including the creation of a Youth Advisory Council in the Manhattan DA’s Office. As District Attorney, Vance plans to work with young activists and youth service providers in Manhattan to reform the way the DA’s Office deals with young offenders and to reduce crime among young people.

The United Federation of Teachers, which represents more than 200,000 men and women in New York, today announced its support for Cy Vance, Democratic candidate for Manhattan District Attorney. UFT President Michael Mulgrew cited Vance's plans to prevent school bullying, protect teachers and staff, work closely with schools to help prosecute and prevent domestic violence and sex crimes, and keep schools safe. The union's president also heralded Vance's commitment to union members and their families.

Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez, who represents New York’s 12th Congressional District, today announced her support for Cy Vance, Democratic candidate for Manhattan District Attorney. A long-time advocate for Latino communities, small business owners, tenants’ rights, and women’s issues, Velázquez commended Vance’s efforts in these areas and expressed confidence in Vance’s plans for the District Attorney’s Office.
