SERGEANTS BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK CITY ENDORSES
CY VANCE FOR MANHATTAN DISTRICT ATTORNEY
Vance Says He Will Create Close Partnerships with Police
NEW YORK, NY – Today the Sergeants Benevolent Association, a group of 10,000 working and retired NYPD sergeants, endorsed Cy Vance for Manhattan District Attorney.
“When they make arrests, police officers want to know that they have a partner in the DA’s office that will make sure justice is served. Cy Vance will be that kind of partner. He will prosecute criminals with the integrity and fairness that he has displayed over the course of an entire career spent in the courtroom,” said Ed Mullins, President of the Sergeants Benevolent Association. “Cy's innovative vision of how to forge a greater partnership between prosecutors, police and the community is exactly the type of forward thinking that we believe will make this city an even safer place to live and work. It is clear that his experience as a prosecutor and defense attorney has given him a unique and expert-level understanding of the criminal justice system. Of all the candidates in the race, Cy is the only one with the right experience to run this office.”
“It’s an honor to have the support of this group of New York’s finest. The sergeants of the NYPD are its front line supervisors and the backbone of the Department and it is the hard work of the sergeants and officers they supervise that make New York City the safest big city in America,” said Vance. “My vision for the Manhattan DA’s office is one of close-knit cooperation between prosecutors and law enforcement agents. Through my community policing model, I will put prosecutors directly in neighborhoods, where they will work alongside law enforcement to prevent crime, not just punish it. Together, we can spot crime upticks and address them before they become crime waves. I strongly believe that the DA’s office should be just as responsible for crime reduction as the police are, and that’s a responsibility I would take on whole-heartedly as DA.”
