The choice resonates with me particularly because of who Judge Sotomayor is: She is a native New Yorker, born and raised in Bronx public housing. She is an alumna of the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, where she worked as a prosecutor under Mr. Morgenthau at the same time I was in the office. She is a woman, the third ever to be nominated to the bench. She is the daughter of Puerto Rican parents. And above all, she is an extremely qualified jurist with a sharp legal mind and reputation for honesty and integrity. I trust that, if confirmed by the Senate, she will protect women’s rights and serve as a guardian of civil liberties.

NEW YORK, NY – Four important forces in downtown Manhattan politics, United Democratic Organization (UDO), District Leaders Dr. Herbert Kee and Jenny Low and City Councilman Alan J. Gerson, all endorsed Cy Vance for Manhattan DA.

Today’s vote is a great example of how far we’ve come, but we still have a long way to go to ensure that all New Yorkers are treated equally. Discrimination issues like the recent arrests of gay men in adult bookstores create tension and mistrust between the community and the police. That doesn’t serve justice. NEW YORK, NY – Today a group of former assistant district attorneys, including notable lawyers Linda Fairstein and Peter Zimroth, gathered on the steps of the New York Supreme Courthouse to voice their support for Cy Vance for Manhattan District Attorney.

“Cy is a lawyer’s lawyer. Unlike his opponents, he has spent his career in the courtroom as a litigator. He has worked on tough cases with integrity, a sense of fairness and respect for civil rights,” said Linda Fairstein, best-selling crime novelist and former head of Manhattan DA’s sex crimes unit. “Cy has the unique perspective of having worked on both sides of the law, as a prosecutor and a defense attorney. NEW YORK, NY – Today former Mayor David Dinkins endorsed Cy Vance for Manhattan District Attorney at a press conference on the steps of City Hall, where Dinkins was the last Democrat to serve as mayor.
