Stringer Cites Vance’s Experience, Progressive Vision
Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer today endorsed Cy Vance for Manhattan District Attorney. Stringer, who has spent nearly two decades in public service, praised Vance’s extensive experience as a prosecutor and defense attorney, his plans for Community-Based Justice, and his judgment and focus on the issues.
"Today I am endorsing Cy Vance because Manhattan needs a District Attorney with great vision, sound judgment and varied experience to run the most respected prosecutorial office in the nation," said Stringer. "I've studied closely all of the candidates in this race, and after serious deliberation am thrilled to give my full support to Cy and his progressive vision for the office. I look forward to working with him as District Attorney to keep Manhattan safe and our government fair and just."
"It is a true honor to have the endorsement of Borough President Stringer. From fighting for tenants' rights to improving our schools and our environment, Scott is dedicated to keeping New Yorkers safe and improving their lives," said Vance. "Part of the job of Borough President is connecting the community members with their government, and Scott does that - neighborhood by neighborhood, block by block, issue by issue. As a fellow Upper West Sider, I know his presence is not just seen, but also felt in our neighborhoods. This is the kind of commitment to community I want to do bring to the Manhattan DA's office through my Community-Based Justice model. Scott's endorsement today builds on the momentum that I am proud to say our campaign has as we enter the home stretch. We have talked about the issues. We have talked about keeping our city safe and making our justice system more fair. We have made this campaign one we are proud of, by offering voters a clear vision for what I consider the most important job in law enforcement."
Borough President Stringer worked to secure a $900,000 grant from the Department of Justice to reduce domestic violence in Northern Manhattan – an issue central to Vance’s campaign. Vance has addressed the public health crisis of domestic violence and called for the creation of a Family Justice Center in Northern Manhattan, where victims can receive vital services under one roof.
Borough President Stringer joins a strong and diverse coalition of supporters of Cy Vance’s campaign for DA. In the last month Vance has been endorsed by the New York Times, the Daily News, the New York Post, the Amsterdam News, UFT, U.S. Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez, State Senator Tom Duane, RWDSU, Tenants PAC, the League of Young Voters PAC and the Innocence Project Co-Founders Barry Scheck and Peter Neufeld. Earlier this summer Vance was endorsed by current District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, former Mayor David Dinkins, Caroline Kennedy, Gloria Steinem, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum, Council Member Alan Gerson, former Comptroller H. Carl McCall, Teamsters Local 237, The Sergeants Benevolent Association, former U.S. Attorneys Robert Fiske and Zachary Carter, the Doe Fund founder George McDonald, and many more. He is also supported by more than 175 former ADA’s – many of whom have worked with all three candidates and know what it takes to be an exemplary District Attorney.
